| Eberly’s Store: Preservation * Renovation * Rebirth
On May 19, 2006 we purchased the property at 5164 New Market Road in southeastern Henrico County. The site is located at the intersection of New Market Road (Route 5) and Willis Church Road (Route 156). Local residents refer to the property as Eberly’s Corner after the family and store, Eberly’s Place, which bore their name for some forty years. The building had been abandoned for many years and was in need of major repair. We have undertaken the task of renovating the existing structure, preserving not only the physical aspects of the building but also its past usage. Our goal is to maintain the tradition of the property and to promote the historical significance of nearby areas.
We are Neil Renouf and Ted Webster, Owners of Old Dominion Outdoors, LLC. While Old Dominion Outdoors, LLC is a corporation, it is also a family-owned and operated business. We created the LLC specifically to purchase and revitalize Eberly’s Store. Our family and its reputation are very important to us. While we want to build a successful business we also want our efforts to enhance the community.
Our vision for the store is to create a place that is inviting to all, including local residents, tourists, cyclists, and outdoorsmen. Our initial product mix includes:
- A selection of premium coffee and teas, smoothies, bottled sports drinks, fresh sandwiches and other foods
- Tourism-related items
- Virginia-made products and
- Fishing and hunting supplies.
Fishermen can enjoy our weight scale, officially recognized by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. Other amenities we hope to offer will include a park-like setting behind the store with shaded picnic benches and an information kiosk with a computer from the Virginia Department of Tourism.
We would like to hear from you. If you have any questions, stories or pictures from the store’s past, ideas of what you would like for us to do and/or product suggestions please let us know.
