GENERAL:Q: Do you require a depsit reserve accommodation or a trip?
A: Yes - please view the relevant service page.
Q: What types of payment are accepted?
A: Visa, Mastercard, Discover, check and cash.
What is your refund / cancellation policy?
A: See the cancellation page.
Do you supply refreshments during trips?
A: You provide your own unless discussed beforehand. Ice is always provided.
Q: What should we bring on trips?
A: Sun screen, bug repellent, drinks and snacks, change of clothes, swim trunks and sun glasses.
Q: Do you supply life jackets for all ages?
A: Yes
FISHING:
Q: What safety equipment do you carry on your boat?
A: I comply with ALL coast guard standards - life jackets, fire extinguisher, flares etc are readily available.
Q: Are you a licensed captain?
A: Yes since 2002
Q: Do you allow alcoholic beverages or smoking on your boat?
A: Yes. This is your day to relax how you wish.
ALL illegal substances are strictly prohibited
Q: What is the youngest age child you could take on a fishing trip?
A: This is down to your discretion, but for a full 8 hour trip we recommend ages 6 to 7 minimum.
Q: Are there any overnight trips?
A: We fish for catfish through the night in the summer.
Q: Can you take physically challenged people or the elderly out?
A: Yes
Q: Do you have a canopy on your boat?
A: On one of my boats I do put a bimini top on if there’s a good chance of rain
Q: Do you have a restroom on your boat?
A: No. You can over the side or we can stop at a marina or a suitable piece of land.
Q: Do you supply fishing poles and equipment?
A: Everything you need to catch the targeted species is provided and is of high quality.
Q: Are animals allowed on the boat ?
A: No
Q: Can we keep the fish we catch?
A: The James River is a trophy fishery. Any catfish under 15lbs we can keep, all others released after pictured and weighed.
KAYAKING:
Q: Where do you do kayaking trips?
A: On the James river and it’s tributaries.
Q: What is the youngest age allowed on your trips?
A: Accompanied 4 or 5 . Paddle themselves 8 or 9 years old.
Q: How many people can you take on a guided kayaking trip?
A: 6 without a special booking.
Q: Are kayaks safe?
A: The kayaks we have are very stable. We often stand up looking for fish.
Q: Can you fish from a kayak?
A: Yes we have both touring and fishing kayaks.
Q: Is kayaking physically demanding?
A: It can be relaxing or a work out depending on what you wish to achieve.
Q: Are you able to get close to wildlife?
A: I have gotten close enough to see the eyelashes of a deer on the bank.
Q: Do you provide 'dry bags' to prevent personal items getting wet or damaged?
A: Yes we have dry boxes, bags and small coolers.
Q: Will I have an opportunity for taking photos?
A: We take out a lot of photographers especially for birding (dry camera boxes provided if need be).
Q: Do you have two person kayaks?
A: Yes tandem yaks are available.
Q: Do you do any overnight camping trips combined with kayaking?
A: Any bespoke trip can be discussed and is possible.
LODGING:
Q: How many rooms do you have?
A: 4 bedrooms for 2 separate groups.
Q: How many guests can you accommodate at one time?
A: Up to 12 (that is using cots).
Q: Do you have a crib for babies?
A: No
Q: Do you have fire extinguishers in every room?
A: Yes
Q: Is smoking allowed in rooms?
A: No.
Q: Can you provide meals?
A: I can provide breakfast for additional charge.
Q: How close is it to the nearest place to get gas?
A: 4 miles.
Q: How far are you from the interstate?
A: 4 miles east from I295 (exit 22A).
Q: Are there any restaurants close by?
A: Yes - Portabelas (Italian), Food Lion and Dairy Queen are a few miles up the road.
Q: Can I park my boat at the lodge?
A: Yes practically right at your door, also outside electric, water and lights.
Q: Is your lodge historic?
A: The building is built on ground that was the ‘Holmes’ artillery division during the civil war.
Q: Is the lodge family friendly?
A: Absolutely! Also there is a fire pit outback for smores....yummy!
Q: Are there smoke detectors in all the rooms?
A: Yes.
